Long-term exposure to radiation increases the risk of all forms of cancer, tumors, blood disorders, miscarriage, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, aging of the skin, skin burn, etc.

Radiation exposure over time can cause skin burn, dry wrinkled skin and photo aging. This skin damage is identical to sun damage and causes the same health problems. Many electronic products that we use on a daily basis expose us to harmful radiation.

What is secondhand smoke?

Secondhand smoke is also known as environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) or passive smoke. It is a mixture of 2 forms of smoke that come from burning tobacco: sidestream smoke (smoke that comes from the end of a lighted cigarette, pipe, or cigar) and mainstream smoke (smoke that is exhaled by a smoker).

When non-smokers are exposed to secondhand smoke it is called involuntary smoking or passive smoking. Non-smokers who breathe in secondhand smoke take in nicotine and other toxic chemicals just like smokers do. The more secondhand smoke you are exposed to, the higher the level of these harmful chemicals in your body.

Why is secondhand smoke a problem?

Secondhand smoke causes cancer

Secondhand smoke is classified as a “known human carcinogen” (cancer-causing agent) by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US National Toxicology Program, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a branch of the World Health Organization.

Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds. More than 60 of these are known or suspected to cause cancer. Read the rest of this entry »

Eczema on arms.
Image via Wikipedia

Eczema is a chronic skin disorder where sufferers have to deal with itching red rashes and dry scaly leathery skin. There may be skin blisters with oozing and crusting. Eczema is generally a symptom of some other underlying condition and sufferers come from across a wide age group starting as young as 1 month to people in their 60s. Eczema is normally more severe for infants and children with the condition improving with age. As you get older you may develop a stronger tolerance to skin sensitivities, which in turn will reduce the extreme bouts of eczema.

Causes

Hereditary – Eczema is considered to be hereditary. Studies reveal that a person is prone to eczema if his family has a history of closely linked conditions like hay fever and asthma.

Allergens – Eczema could be aggravated by irritants like smoke, chemicals, detergents, solvents and so on. Even weather conditions could aggravate the condition. Excessive stress, heat and emotional stress also aggravates the symptoms of eczema.

Have you ever used a soap that just didn’t lather or that left your skin feeling tight and dry? The reason for this is poor formulation of the soap base itself.

Here’s the scoop on formulation (and you don’t need to like chemistry to read on…) Soap is the result of a full chemical reaction in which a section of an oil molecule (a fatty acid) attaches to a sodium ion. By choosing oils that have specific molecular properties (that is, the right fatty acids) and blending them in the right proportions, we can create the results we want in the final bars.

Creamy lather, fluffy lather, extra moisturizing, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
